Steve and Heath traveled to Zapata from the DFW area to take on some Falcon Toads. We had a blast on the water, We spent most of our time in the thicket fishing huisache, retamas, hardwoods throwing spinnerbaits and soft plastics. Our better fish came on soft plastics. We really had a quality pattern going and eliminated the rats. The rats seem to be in the 2 ft or less water and our best fish usually were in 4-7 feet. Some of our net jobs we had were epic for example one 5 pounder was wrapped on a retama 5 feet under water, we extended the net 6 feet and were able to pull that baby up. The second day was the better day even though we caught less fish. We ended the day with a stringer a little over 28 pounds with our biggest weighing in at 7.80. I should say they, because I didn't catch a fish.
I really enjoyed these two on the boat and if you look closely at the faces of these men you will see a bunch of smiles. That is what fishing is all about.
The last day of fishing was a pretty tough one. We caught fish in the 1-5 pound range, but never had a chance at a big girl.I really enjoyed fishing with these two gents. They are a class act and I look forward to the next time I have them in the boat.
Took Mike and Bill out today and we put a smack down on her. We had a 27 pound stringer and our biggest fish was only 7.74. We caught quality fish today and our two biggest fish we had on didn't make it to the boat. Mike had his heart broken twice today, but we are going back out again to seek redemption.
Darren and I set out in the cold misty morning on Falcon Lake and we knew it would be tough and it was. Darren started the day off with a nice fish pictured above and then for the next 7 hours we managed to put 4 more fish in the boat. It was a run and gun type day with very little success. I am really hoping this weather stabilizes. I will be back on the water tomorrow hoping for a much better day and better results.
